Neurotoxins

Designed to smooth dynamic wrinkles and restore a relaxed, refreshed appearance.

What Are Neurotoxins?

Targeted Relaxation, Natural Results

Neurotoxin treatments use purified botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax specific facial muscles that contribute to dynamic wrinkles. At Pendeza Aesthetics, treatments are performed using Botox and Xeomin, two clinically proven injectable medications.

Dynamic wrinkles form from repeated facial expressions such as squinting, frowning, or raising your eyebrows. Over time, these movements create lines that remain visible even when the face is at rest. Neurotoxins work by blocking the nerve signals that cause targeted muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the skin above appears smoother and more refreshed.

"The goal is not to eliminate expression but to soften the movements that cause it."

Treatment Instructions

Pre-treatment instructions
  • Arrive 15 minutes early for photos and any necessary paperwork.
  • Come with a clean face — no makeup, moisturizer, or sunscreen.
  • Avoid alcohol the night before treatment.
  • Inform your provider if you take aspirin, pain medication, prescription blood thinners, or other medications that may increase bleeding.
  • Schedule your injection at least 2 weeks before any special occasion or event, in case you bruise and to ensure full effect.

The First Few Hours

  • Avoid manipulating or touching the treated area for 3 hours after treatment.
  • Apply a cool compress for 10–15 minutes at a time as needed on the day of treatment.

The First 24–48 Hours

  • Avoid vigorous workouts for 24–48 hours.
  • Makeup, cleansers, moisturizers, and face creams may be used as normal — just make sure your applicators (brushes, sponges, hands) are clean.
  • Retin-A, glycolic acid, and vitamin C can be used, but avoid the treated area for 24 hours.

What to Expect

  • Mild tenderness in the treated areas for 1–2 days.
  • A temporary “heaviness” or tight feeling, which usually resolves within 1–2 weeks.
  • Mild bruising is possible and can be covered with makeup.
  • Neurotoxins typically begin working in 3–10 days, with full effect around 2 weeks.

Other Treatments

  • Avoid esthetic procedures (BBL, Scarlet, microneedling, lasers, facials) for at least 2 weeks after injection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Botoz and Xeomin

Both are purified forms of botulinum toxin type A and work in the same way. The main difference is formulation. Botox contains accessory proteins alongside the active toxin. It is the most widely recognized brand and has an extensive clinical track record. Xeomin is a purified formulation that contains no accessory proteins. Some providers prefer it for patients who may have developed resistance to other brands over time. Your provider will recommend the most appropriate option based on your treatment history and goals.

Most patients begin noticing improvement within three to five days of treatment. Full results typically appear within ten to fourteen days as the targeted muscles fully relax. If you have a specific event coming up, your provider will recommend scheduling accordingly.

Results typically last three to four months, although this varies based on the treatment area, the number of units used, your metabolism, and how your muscles respond. Many patients find that with regular maintenance treatments, results can last slightly longer over time as the muscles gradually weaken from repeated relaxation.

Most patients return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. You may notice mild redness or small injection marks at the treatment sites, which typically resolve within a few hours. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions, including activities to avoid in the 24 hours following treatment.

Yes. Neurotoxins address dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, but they do not improve skin texture, tone, or volume. Combining with treatments such as RF Microneedling, Chemical Peels, or XERF Skin Tightening allows you to address multiple concerns as part of a comprehensive plan. Your provider will recommend the right combination and timing based on your goals.
